Abbas Abad travertine mine is located in Baqer Abad area of this city and about 350 to 400 workers are working in Abbas Abad mine. Four million tons of raw stone equivalent to 12 million square meters are produced annually in 300 quarries in Mahalat. About 50 stone mines are operating in Mahalat city.

One of the good properties of this stone is its heat and sound insulation, which the holes inside the stone have created this property, and another feature of these holes in travertine stone is increasing the resistance of the installed stone. It is possible that with the penetration of cement into these holes, the adhesion of the stone to the wall increases. The holes in the travertine stone are a suitable source due to the space occupied by the gases in the hot water, which prevent the creation of a compacted stone mass.
